Air pollution has emerged as a major inflammatory factor leading to multiple conditions, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. A new research study has attributed about 3.5 million cardiovascular deaths in 2019 to particulate matter pollution. A recent WHO report on hypertension too listed air pollution — along with obesity, high salt intake, tobacco and alcohol usage — among the risk factors for high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.
