How Bangalore gave Holi-day  a healthy twist

Hydration was key

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helped many as the mercury touched  35° Celsius on Monday, March 25. Some resorted to chilled beer too (Bangalore is reeliing under a water crisis anyway)

The natural option

At Jayamahal Palace, Bangalore came out to celebrate Holi with natural colours, avoiding synthetic chemicals that are very harsh on the skin.

A 'Dry' Holi

The ongoing and severe water crisis in Bangalore meant that people stayed away from buckets of water. Good, because they managed to avoid possible infections

'Healthy' eats

Gujia (also called Chandrakala and Gunja) was in high demand. The coconut filling in the gujia makes it a healthy option, but the sugar in it is a source of worry. Thandai provided relief from heat and nutrition (the milk and dried fruits helped, of course)

A visual extravaganza

Holi is big in Marwari areas in Bangalore but the water crisis loomed large this year. Here are some snapshots of the celebrations from Koramangala, Jayamahal Palace and some other parts of the city,
