With temperatures rising above 37 degrees in the city, traffic police continue to work efficiently. They shared a few tips to manage summer heat.

Apart from the weekly police parade, they choose activities like walking, running or working out in the morning or evening, depending on their shifts, which helps increase their stamina.

Staying physically active

The white uniform reflects the heat without absorbing it, while the slouch hat protects them from direct sun light.

Traffic cops are at higher risk of dehydration due to prolonged sun exposure. Hence, apart from drinking plenty of water, they also drink tender coconut, lime juice, seasonal fruit juice and ORS.

Hydrating oneself

As they are more vulnerable to heat rash and skin infections, applying coconut oil or cold creams prevents dry and itchy skin. They take cold baths twice a day to help keep their body cool.

Cutting down on foods and beverages that increase body temperature and consuming freshly cooked nutritious meals help beat the summer heat. They rely on healthy drinks like buttermilk.

Diet

A dry atmosphere and air pollution increase the risk of dry cough among traffic police. They wear a mask to avoid dust and pollution.

Standing under the sun for a long time increases the risk of fatigue, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. They take frequent small breaks and rest in the shade.
