Ann Gonzalvez, chairperson, Chennai chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) speaks on the support needed for people living with multiple sclerosis. A banker turned social worker, Gonzalvez endeavours to spread awareness about multiple sclerosis, guiding the individuals and their families. She is working towards ensuring the persons with the condition receive proper treatment and their entitled relief from the government. Multiple sclerosis is a debilitating neurological condition affecting the brain and spinal cord, which form the central nervous system. This autoimmune condition degrades the protective sheath around neurons. As a consequence, lesions can develop in the brain and spinal cord, giving rise to a diverse range of symptoms.
