Rhinitis symptoms explained

From the familiar sneeze to the frustrating nasal congestion, this infographic is your roadmap to understand the different symptoms of rhinitis.

Rhinitis is a common problem where your nose gets irritated and causes issues like a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itchiness, and other discomforts. These symptoms can occur due to allergies, infections, strong odour or changes in weather. The type and severity of symptoms vary depending on whether the rhinitis is allergic or non-allergic, as well as individual sensitivity to triggers like allergens, infections, irritants, or hormonal changes. Understanding the symptoms associated with rhinitis is crucial for its accurate diagnosis and effective management.

Dr Arpit Sharma, an ENT consultant and head-neck surgeon at P D Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Mahim, explains that rhinitis is the inflammation of nasal tissue. “This inflammation can trigger symptoms such as a runny or congested nose, sneezing, and itching,” he says. Rhinitis may be a temporary inconvenience or a persistent condition, varying in duration based on its underlying cause.

Knowing more about rhinitis can help you deal with it and breathe easier. Here is a visual journey of the telltale signs of rhinitis.

Managing rhinitis effectively is entirely within reach, assures Dr Sharma. “Tailored treatment approaches depend on individual clinical assessments,” he explains. These may include nasal sprays, antibiotics, and immunotherapy – versatile tools aimed at combating the symptoms of rhinitis.

Though rhinitis may seem like a minor inconvenience initially, its persistence can quickly transform into a significant nuisance. However, by knowing its causes, symptoms, and potential complications, one can navigate through its challenges with ease. The right treatment and lifestyle adjustments can significantly improve quality of life, free from the constant sniffles.

If you are dealing with rhinitis, it is important to see a doctor. They can help create a plan just for you to make you feel better.
