Strength training makes you bulkier: Myth

Did you know strength training works wonders when it comes to the well-being of women? It helps them cope with hormonal changes and can lower the effects of osteoporosis. Strength training tones the body and makes women feel confident and good about themselves. Further, it strengthens the muscles, protects the joints and bones from injuries, increases bone density and significantly improves overall strength. Thus, it helps women perform day-to-day tasks more efficiently.

One of the deterrents to strength training is the common misconception that lifting weights will lead women to bulk up and make them look more muscular. That, however, is not the case — instead, strength training can help them look leaner and stronger. Experts advise women to lift weights at least three times a week. However, every individual is different and so are their goals. So, a trainer or coach should help customize the strength training program based on individual needs.
