Applying makeup every day by itself is not bad for the skin. Some people apply makeup occasionally for special events and some prefer it every day. Whichever be the category, it is important for the users to always use quality products. This can prevent skin issues such as clogged pores, wrinkles, breakouts, or allergic reactions.
Dr Inderpreet Mahendra, dermatologist, Apollo Clinic, Pune, says makeup and skincare go together. “Wearing makeup regularly has no harm provided a person follows a proper skincare routine before applying it and after removing it too,” is her advice.
A basic skincare routine starts with a hydrating moisturiser and a sunblock before applying makeup. “Always remember that the morning skincare routine is to protect, and the night routine is to repair your skin,” Dr Mahendra adds.
Towards the end of the day, one can use micellar water to gently remove the makeup and doubly ensure there is no residue on the skin. However, Dr Mahendra stresses that the skin should be moisturised well afterwards. She suggests including products with retinol and salicylic acid which help exfoliate and keep the skin clean.
