Explore the root causes of rhinitis in one glance

Rhinitis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane in the nose, leading to symptoms like a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and itching. It can be caused by various factors such as allergies, infections, or irritants and can vary from short-lived to persistent episodes. It is not a serious health concern, but it can adversely affect every aspect of one’s life, including sleep quality, mood, and daily activities.

Dr Arpit Sharma, consultant – ENT and head neck surgeon at P D Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Mahim, says that rhinitis can be triggered by various factors, including viruses, bacteria, allergens, or irritants. The most common type is allergic rhinitis, which occurs when your nose encounters allergens like pollen or animal dander. “Understanding what is causing your rhinitis is crucial for effective management,” she points out.
