The Department of Mental Health Education at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru is hosting its second edition of Mental Health Santhe, on February 20. The event aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health and connect individuals with both resources and the needed support. For this, NIMHANS has partnered with various mental health organisations to offer a diverse range of activities and information.
Attendees can:
- Gain knowledge about available mental health services and suicide prevention strategies.
- Engage in interactive activities and games to make learning about mental health fun and accessible.
- Connect with experts from NIMHANS departments like the Centre for Brain Research and Psychiatry.
Addressing a critical need
The event recognises the growing concern for mental health, particularly in developing countries like India. The National Mental Health Survey 2015-16 highlighted the challenges of stigma and low literacy, discouraging individuals from seeking help.
Dr KS Meena, Head of the Department of Mental Health Education, NIMHANS states, “Through Mental Health Santhe 2.0, we aim to dismantle stigma, educate communities, and ignite conversations about mental well-being, fostering a world where every individual feels supported and understood.”
Open to the public: The event will be held at the NIMHANS Convention Centre on February 20 from 10 am to 4.30 pm. Over 75 stalls will offer valuable resources and insights, making this a comprehensive learning experience for anyone interested in mental health awareness.
