Your hair is more than texture, look and feel. These delicate threads of identity, which come in an array of textures, colours and styles, tell a unique story of the owner’s heritage, personality and journey. Whether it is the sleekness of straight hair or the captivating coils of afro-textured hair, this diversity is a testament to the wonders of nature.  However, each type comes with its own unique attributes and demands for care.

Happiest Health does a show and tell for different types of hair, their characteristics, and a few care tips.

Dr Dileep suggests the following general hair care tips for all types:

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to keep hair and scalp hydrated from within.
  • Nutrition: Consume a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins for healthy hair growth.
  • Regular trims: Trim split ends every six–eight weeks to prevent further damage.
  • Avoid heat: Minimise heat styling and use heat protectants when necessary.
  • Silk/satin pillowcases: Sleep on silk or satin pillowcases to reduce friction and prevent frizz.
  • Hair masks: Treat your hair to regular deep conditioning masks for added nourishment.
  • Sun protection: Shield your hair from UV rays using hats or scarves.

Embracing your hair type is an act of self-love and a commitment to nurture your hair. However, amidst the abundance of information online, finding the right hair care routine might sometimes feel like an unsolvable puzzle. Yet, by conducting research tailored to your specific hair type, you can effectively ensure its well-being.
