6 tips to build confidence

Confidence is an acquired skill that can be honed with time

Confidence is not just a trait; it is a superpower.  It can open doors, help us overcome obstacles, and lead us to success in all areas of life.  According to the American Psychological Association, self-confidence is a belief that one is capable of successfully meeting the demands of a task. It defines the trait as, “the belief in one’s own abilities, capabilities, and decision-making. As it is generally considered a positive mindset, enhancing self-confidence is frequently a primary or ultimate objective in psychotherapy.”

S Usha Rani, a psychologist and therapist in Bengaluru says that self-confidence is an acquired skill that can be honed with time. “It is about feeling good about the things you are already good at. When you are self-confident, you believe in yourself and your abilities more, which can make you feel better physically and mentally.”

She further says that practicing mindfulness and relaxation techniques helps us maintain composure under pressure, which is a key component of it.
