Chethana Nagesh, dietitian at Sathwaa Nutrition, Bengaluru, says that proteins and fats are the key players in hormone synthesis. “Protein is not only essential for supporting the structure of tissues, or facilitating enzymatic reactions, but also acts as hormones,” says Nagesh. In addition, cholesterol, a type of fat, acts as a precursor for sex hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
